Introduction to The Artist…

After reflecting on another brilliant Affordable Art Fair this Spring, I have been thinking a lot about the conversations which I had whilst talking to new clients who purchased paintings, and passers by interested in my work. The most common theme was that they wanted to know about me… why I painted and why I chose to paint that particular piece of work.

The reason why I paint is easy, if you’ve read any of my previous blogs you will see that the reason why I started painting again after 7 years of working in the Fashion Industry was that I was overwhelmed, stressed and dealing with chronic anxiety. I’d been in and out of talking therapy since my brother passed away in 2010 and so right before the pandemic hit I decided to go to night school and learn how to paint again. This all happened at just the right time for me as when we went into lockdown and was furloughed, all of a sudden I could take time to perfect my skill and paint all day and night, which is what I did. I haven’t stopped painting since.

The harder question is why I chose to paint THAT particular painting, whichever one it may be. With abstract art, there doesn’t have to be a ‘right’ composition, it doesn’t have to be anything, and is open for your own interpretation. That’s one reason why I love abstract. Everybody will be drawn into something different within the painting and translate it in their mind and something unique to you.
