My Early Life…

When getting to know an Artist it’s often interesting to learn about early life and where the spark for creativity was started. For myself it wasn’t a very linear process into the Art World, life changed trajectory for me when I was a teenager but this lead me down a creative path that I was trying so hard to avoid.

Going way back to my early childhood I always loved painting, making and doing anything craft related. Whether it was knitting with my Great Aunt, creating Christmas wrapping paper from potato stamps with my mum or hiding away in my room colouring, my life was filled with creative people who really encouraged this from me. The school which I was in was more focused on Academia than Creativity so this wasn’t encouraged towards further Education and I had my first instance of copying when I was completing my GCSE final piece. This put me off going to university to study Art so instead I went to do A Levels with an idea of wanting to study business at University.

Fast forward to my first year of A Levels and my brother suddenly passed away, so I paused that year and went back to college in the September enrolling on an Art and Design Btec. This was my form of therapy for 2 years and I loved every minute of it. The course covered all aspects of creativity, from photography, to painting to woodwork (which I was terrible at), but it really encouraged you to find your own area in the art world that spoke to you. Still after the instance of my GCSE final piece being copyed I wanted to avoid the art world and go down the fashion route, so this is what I did… and instead went to University for 4 years studying Fashion Management. After this I got my first job in Fashion and started on my career.

I loved it, I had the opportunity to work for some incredible fashion head offices, I lived in London, I travelled to beautiful places in Italy, went to incredible parties but I always felt a lack. After working in the industry for 7 years I really started to miss being creative so I enrolled onto an evening course in Acrylic Paint at Nottingham Trent University and then the pandemic hit. This was my time to get back into painting, I ordered lots of canvases and paints and every day whilst I was furloughed all I did was paint.

And is where it all started again…
